A really cool collection of photos, sent by Myriram. Author is unknown, and we’d appreciate your helps. Reminds me of lifting of the Moon and the world is in your hand.
first one to comment. thank you, thank you. i’d like to thank the little people whose faces i stepped on to get here today. hooray!! and the moon looks like a tramp in these pictures!
The moon appears larger nearer the horizon only because you have objects around to which to compare it. Hence, the effect of enlargement is purely psychological. Measuring the moon as a proportion of the overall expanse of the sky (on a 180-degree arc) shows it to be the same size regardless of height. Studies have also shown that by “bringing” the horizon to the moon, by illusory techniques such as mirrors, the moon can be made to appear large at its zenith.
Playing with the moon and sun is more like it. I’m guessing you’re american’t ? Good work none the less.. reminds me of how creative my grand daughter is.. err her monkey pet.
Many (perhaps most) of these are double exposures or created from two images. The moon is shot separately and with a longer (telephoto) lens and therefore appears larger relative to the other picture elements. Many professional photographers wait for the full moon and clear nights and shoot whole rolls of telephoto images of the moon. While doing this the moon can be placed anywhere on the frame to be used later, when the film can be reloaded into camera.
The same sort of manipulation is probably done in darkroom or photoshop.
The photos with their manipulations are no less creative and brilliant, for all that.
They’re great pictures, but obviously shopped. Not that i’m dissing their artistic merit. Cos i’m not. I’m just saying the person is really good with photoshop.
The moon appears large because the pictures have been shot using a telelens. The people in the pictures where the moon appears to be large in comparison to the people were standig at a distance when the pictures were shot.
Actually, sometimes the moon is closer to the Earth. Planetary bodies move in elliptical orbits, not circular, so when the moon is on the short side of its ellipse, and so is the Earth, it is closer to us. Check out “perigee” and “apogee”.
These are beautiful. I like the ones of the kids playing around. The lasso around the moon was sweet too. It made me think of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Thanks for sharing!
I forget to say that this is not Photoshop pictures. I’ve used a telelens to make the Moon bigger. If I had used Photoshop to composite the characters and the Moon, the pictures would have been better, with much deep of field, more sharpness, and less contrast between the Moon and the foreground. These pictures aren’t perfect, that’s why they look “real”, “un-photoshoped”.
